It will not let me download Mcafee or any other antivirus software. Is there a way to do it manually?

I just got a new lap top and I refuse to use McAfee because last time I got a virus inside of it. I heard AVG is really good is this true?
AVG also has a version that you can pay for as well as anti-spyware. How good is that?

When I download the new one, do I have to worry about it conflicting with McAfee, or do I have to worry about deleting it? If so, how?

i doubt the scan was thorough. it is impossible to scan the whole computer in such little time. mcafee took 7 hours and even avast used to take 5 hours. Is comodo antivirus really doing the job?
